FAQ
What is PrimaTape®?
PrimaTape® is a high quality woven fabric impregnated with special cement that is activated by water before application and ideally used to provide a mechanical protection for pipe connections and fittings that is made of steel, cast iron, cement, synthetic materials and others.
What sectors does PrimaTape® serve?
PrimaTape® is used in construction and industrial sectors; water supply pipes, drainage, sewer and petroleum and gas pipes.
What are the key benefits of using PrimaTape®?
It is a reliable and safe solution to protect the pipe connections, fittings, welding seams and socket joints. Quick and easy to apply, environmentally friendly composition materials, safe for drinking water pipes, durable and cost effective.
Why 8 layers?
To ensure the desired impact protection, a layer thickness of around 1/4 in (7 mm) is necessary. This is achieved by winding the tape in eight layers with a 50% overlap.
Is there any different application step in a low temperature environment?
The minimum surrounding temperature to apply the tape is 41°F ( 5°C). In some urgent cases it is possible to heat the surface of the pipe and/or use warm water but such a decision depends on the overall situation.
How does weather condition impact applying PrimaTape®?
In hot weather conditions, workability and curing time decrease. For best results, do not use warm water (recommended water temperature is less than 62.6°F (17 °C) and avoid direct sunlight.
In cold weather conditions, workability and curing time increase. For best results, do not use hot water ( recommended water temperature range is 46.4 – 68°F (8 – 20 °C), can use hot air gun or cement curing blanket over the band, remove snow (if any) and use vacuum to remove any excess water.
Can PrimaTape® be used under water?
Yes, cement is a hydraulic system that means it can cure under water.
How long does PrimaTape® last?
If there are no environmental or mechanical factors affecting its durability, it is long lasting like concrete. At least as long as the treated pipe lasts.
Is PrimaTape® available in bigger sizes?
Bigger sizes are available for special orders and subject to minimum order quantities.
The bigger sizes of PrimaTape® have more weight and might need tools to handle and apply.
Is PrimaTape® used to wrap a pipeline?
PrimaTape® is mainly used on pipe welded joints, push-ins, fittings, and elbows in order to provide mechanical protection against impact. Wrapping a pipeline is possible in special cases.
Is PrimaTape® applied on pipes with check valves?
Yes PrimaTape® can be applied on pipes with check valves.
Any environmental concern when using PrimaTape®?
PrimaTape® has no toxic materials and environmentally friendly.
Is PrimaTape® used to fix or repair?
PrimaTape® is a mechanical protection solution NOT a repair solution.
